US-based automaker Ford is planning to invest about $773m on new equipment and capacity expansions in its six manufacturing facilities in southeast Michigan, US.

The investment is a part of company's plan to invest $6.2bn in the US-based plants by 2015.

Ford North America Manufacturing vice president Jim Tetreault said: "These investments, many of which are already under way, will ensure our southeast Michigan manufacturing facilities can support our aggressive growth plans."

The company is planning to install a new stamping press at Michigan Assembly Plant, fix equipment for four new stamping presses at Dearborn Stamping Plant and complete the work at Flat Rock Assembly Plant in the next six months, which will assist in manufacturing the new Fusion model in 2013.

In addition, the company also plans to invest at the Sterling Axle Plant, Van Dyke Transmission, and Livonia Transmission as a part of the investment.

The automaker had already started expansion work at several plants in early 2012 in a bid to increase its capacity to provide transmissions and axles to support growing demand for fuel efficient vehicles and F-Series pickup trucks.
